Tuning in to Audible Art

The public is invited to a reception at Artist Eye Gallery for this month’s featured watercolorist N.C. Swan from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17.

Swan is a permanent member of the gallery, 1294-A S. Coast Highway.

A fifth generation Californian, Swan has added another dimension to her work by recording sounds and incorporating them into her presentation. Swan’s audible art concept includes her award-winning wave paintings where viewers push a button on the side of the frame and can hear the sights and sounds of waves rushing to shore or the sounds of seagulls.

Art Reception at Home Among the Brews

An example from the Kozowyk exhibit.

Laguna Coffee Company will host a closing reception Wednesday, Sept. 21, from 6–8 p.m. for local photographer and athlete Stephen Kozowyk, on the staff of Laguna Beach Cyclery.

Stephen, a hearing-impaired endurance athlete, uses photography to tell people’s stories. He shoots exclusively in the traditional method of black and white film that requires hand processing and printing.

The community’s most prevalent athlete communities have inspired him: surfers and open water swimmers.

All photography and additional prints will be available to purchase at the coffee shop, 1050 S. Coast Highway #B.

Another Gallery Closes Up Shop

After 10 years in business in Laguna Beach, Wendt Gallery will close its Coast Highway location this month, though maintain locations in New York, Vienna and Singapore.

”We will miss Laguna but will continue to work with our clients locally in an advisory capacity,” said Wendt Vice President Serina Manqueros.

She described the gallery’s decade in Laguna as a success, but that its operators have decided against renewing an expiring lease and will refocus on further expansion into the Asian marketplace.

Recently, The New York Times reported that Asian art auctions are setting records.
