See over 30 artists working in a variety of media from glass fusion to bronze welding at Artist Open Studios from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 19 and 20.

Participants can use the free shuttle service from the ACT V parking lot, 1900 Laguna Canyon Road, and take advantage of free parking.

The first stop visits painter John Repka. The second stop welcomes a new addition of artists who include ceramicist and public artist Marlo Bartels, mixed media sculptors Michael Ezzell and Casey Parlette and environmental aerial photographer Tom Lamb.

At the third stop, visitors can make their own piece of kiln formed glass with Maggie Spencer and see her colorful work.

The fourth stop serves as another Open Studios addition. Take in a creative art glass studio space with glassblowers John Barber and Muffin Spencer-Devlin.

Close by is the ceramic and wood studio space of Sandy Groves.

The fifth stop supports a diverse group at Laguna Canyon Artists.

A self-guided portion of the tour includes a studio downtown, on Ocean Avenue, to discover painter Cliff Wassmann. At 1550 S. Coast Highway explore graceful watercolors of Lydia Delgado at her studio gallery.

An exhibit of work by Laguna Beach artist Sandra Jones Campbell opens with a reception at Pacific Edge Gallery Saturday, March 19, from 6-9 p.m., 540 S. Coast Highway.

The exhibition features over 25 new original works on canvas and paper and will feature the contemporary expressionist style and social commentary that Campbell is known for.

The exhibition continues through April.

 

 

 

Learn Costume Making From Award-Winners

LOCA Arts Education’s “Fashionista” costume making workshop will take place Thursday, March 24, between 4-6 p.m. in Laguna Canyon.

Workshop participants will work in two teams, creating an ensemble from dried poured paint and woven plastic discards.

The workshop at 3251 Laguna Canyon Road will be lead by award-winning runway designers Brad Elsberry and Mariana Nelson. Elsberry will teach participants how to mix and dry house paints and turn them into textiles. Nelson will show how to recycle plastic discards into hats and other accoutrements.

The finished works will be presented at the One Thin Dime circus art party and cabaret, held at the studio of Sandra Jones Campbell on Monday, April 24.

Exhibit Captures Social Commentary on Canvas

BC Space Gallery opens its latest exhibition, “Amerikan Krazy: Life Out of Balance,” featuring the work of a score of artists with a reception Sunday, March 20, in celebration of the Vernal Equinox.

At the opening, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on 235 Forest Ave., Henry James Korn will read from his new book “Amerikan Krazy,” which serves as the show’s thematic namesake.

He will discuss how the reuse of the former Marine Corps air base has transformed from a public serving project into a corporate theme park, sports complex, and housing development that mirrors “Founding Father Land” depicted in Korn’s satirical novel.

Others artists featured include Jorg Dubin, Joella March, Stephen Anderson, Jeff Gillette, F. Scott Hess, Tom Lamb, Douglas McCulloh, Haley Blatte, Jerry Burchfield, Mark Chamberlain, Ricardo Duffy, Jared Milar, Max Papeschi, Jessica DeStefano, Lynn Kubasek, Glenn Brooks, Ron English, Dustin Shuler, Clayton Spada, Jacques Garnier, Pat Spakuhl, and Dan Van Clapp.
