Garden Hosts Memorial Day Cabaret

Laguna Nursery hosts The Global Garden Cabaret with vocalists Saif Edden and Kati Gillmore on Monday, May 30, from 6 to 10 p.m.

Nursery owner Ruben Flores hosts the $100 per person event, promising food, wine, music and fun for a cause. Proceeds benefit Japan tsunami relief and globalgiving.org.

L.E.A.F Celebrates 2nd Film Contest

Leaders of Environmental Action Films (L.E.A.F) completed their second annual ecommercial film contest, which received 210 entried by California high school students about sustainable issues that matter most to them.

The winners were screened at the recent Newport Beach Film Festival and AEG’s LA Live Earth Day.

L.E.A.F., founded by several former Laguna Beach High School students, now plans an eco-music contest for high school students to create music scores focused on environmental issues in any style they choose.

L.E.A.F.’s goal is to empower youth and give them a voice in helping save the planet, while at the same time helping to connect them to future career opportunities.

Dance Classes for Kids Evoke ‘Rapunzel’

The Laguna Beach Recreation Department is offering a four-week June session of toddlers/youngster dance classes at Miss Linda’s Castle, where instructor Linda Haylett (“Miss Linda”), inspired by the movie “Tangled,” will braid her magic through songs and dances about the legend of “Rapunzel.”

The classes, which all explore the fairy tale, include pre-ballet for toddlers 18 months to 3 years old that is available three days a week; combo tap/ballet/jazz classes for 3- and 4-year-olds available in the morning and afternoon; and Do-Re-Me Singers, who meet Tuesdays. More serious ballet classes are also offered.
