Katsuya Offers Special Prix Fix Menu

Through Oct. 8, Katsuya will participate in OC Wine and Beer Week by offering five courses paired with either sake, wine, or beer for $45.

The first course is a crispy rock shrimp in a creamy sauce paired with Kimoto classic sake. A second course of a sampling of Katsuya favorites is paired with Mulderbosch sauvignon blanc. The third course is a Wagyu skirt steak paired with Alakai red blend followed by the chef’s best assortment of sushi and sashimi selection paired with Cakebread chardonnay.  The meal is topped off by mochi ice cream with a Nine Vines rosé.

Calling all Local Artists

Laguna Beach’s palette competition is accepting applications from local residents 18 years and older.

Winning artists receive an honorarium of $500 and will be provided with a 4’ x 3’ wooden palette, which will be displayed on lampposts throughout the city during the winter holiday season. The seven Arts Commission will judge the designs based on creativity and appropriateness, and although there are no restrictions on subject matter, religious symbols are discouraged.

The deadline is Oct. 7.

Film Fest Rolls Out Entry Deadlines

The Newport Beach Film Festival is taking submissions for its 13th anniversary line up scheduled to take place April 26-May 3. Early entries by Oct. 28 are accepted at a discounted fee.

An international slate of over 350 films, including feature-length narrative, documentary, short, animated and student films will compete for a series of awards.

Discounts of $5 will be offered to filmmakers who submit through WAB. www.withoutabox.com. Films can also be submitted through www.NewportBeachFilmFest.com.

Food, Wine Experts Share Their Tips

Locals and guests of Dana Point’s St. Regis Resort are invited to take advantage of an evening with food and wine aficionados on Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in its Stonehill Tavern.

Chef and restaurateur Michael Mina and vintner Agustin Francisco Huneeus will be available for questions and conversation along with Rajat Parr, co-author of “Secrets of the Sommelier” and wine director of Mina Group. They will discuss choice wine selections from their wineries.

Parr will pour selected Michael Mina Wines. Mina and Parr will also be available to sign copies of their books.
