Breakers entered their final two weeks of the regular season with a slim one game lead over Calvary Chapel and a four game lead over third place Estancia (6-5, 15-10) with four games remaining. Breakers and Estancia met this past week in a pair of games while Calvary (9-2, 16-4) faced hapless Saddleback (1-10, 4-20). Next week Laguna and Calvary square off while Estancia must face a tough Godinez squad (5-6, 8-14) that could be a spoiler for Estancia’s playoff hopes.

Last week Laguna romped Saddleback 8-1 Tuesday, April 26, at home and completed the sweep on Friday, April 29, with a 15-0 win at the Roadrunner field. Breakers have taken 14 straight games from Saddleback and 24 of the past 25 meetings. Ashton Goddard (3-2) picked up the win on Tuesday, striking out five in four innings of work allowing just two hits. Jack Loechner picked up the victory on Friday with one hit and seven strikeouts in four innings of work. John Ogden, Cutter Clawson, and Will McInerny completed the game in relief on Friday.

In between the two league games last week, Laguna traveled to Corona del Mar on Wednesday, April 27, to make up a rained-out Newport Elks tournament contest in March. Breakers took an early 1-0 lead then gave up six runs in the fourth inning to send the Sea Kings on to an 11-1 victory, extending the all-time series domination to 33-13 in favor of CdM. Blake Burzell took the pitching loss in the game.

Individual game and season stats are posted on the Laguna baseball site at Maxpreps.com
