Laguna swept another series with a pair of shutouts last week defeating Godinez 10-0 at their Centennial Park field, Tuesday, April 25, and taking them at Laguna 14-0 on Friday, April 28. Five shutouts this year ranks the team fifth among 79 seasons of play. Sixteen team victories this season has already placed the 2017 squad as the seventh most successful team in Laguna history. Only four teams have completed league play without a blemish. Laguna must sweep Costa Mesa this week and close out with a sweep of second place Estancia next week to improve its in-school ranking.
Breakers will host the Eagles on Tuesday, May 9, in what should be the game for the league title.
Dante Faicchio should have shattered the career games mark this past week and the senior is only three doubles away from Chris Paul for that career mark. His 93 runs scored already ranks second all-time in Laguna history.
For season marks, Faicchio is just two short on the doubles mark and seven shy on runs scored. Dustin Angus etched his name in the records by snapping Mike Candy’s 1962 single season triples record with a three-bagger last week at Godinez giving the junior his sixth for the season
