Boys Basketball (11-3)

Laguna outscored Huntington Beach 30-13 in the final period to pull off another victory over the Oilers with a 77-72 win in the North South Challenge on Monday, Dec. 21 at El Toro High School.

The 30 points ranks among the top single quarter outputs by Laguna (record is 36) and the most since 1992. Breakers trailed by 12 entering the final period but Blake Burzell was on fire in the final minutes to lead the Laguna comeback. For the game Burzell scored 25, Darin Richardson 20, and Isaac Wulff 19 to lead Laguna.

Breakers are in Encinitas this past week for the Torrey Pines – Under Armour Tournament at Santa Fe Christian High School.

Breakers crushed Brentwood 70-56 on Saturday, Dec. 26 as Darin Richardson scored 26 and Isaac Wulff 24 to lead the Breakers. Laguna came back on Monday, Dec. 28, to beat Albany from the Bay Area 56-46 behind Burzell with 26 and Wulff with 11. Laguna was to play Riverside Poly in the semifinals on Tuesday, Dec. 29, and conclude play on Wednesday, Dec. 30

 

Girls Basketball (7-5)

Laguna defeated Sunny Hills on Monday, Dec. 21, in the North/South Challenge at Mission Viejo High School. Jackie Cenan led the Breakers with 20 points while Alexandra Lewis added 13, Amy Nygaard added 10. On Monday, Dec. 28, in the WYBT tournament in Kona, Breakers surprised Canyon Crest of San Diego 46-41. Laguna was to face Kohala on Tuesday, Dec. 29, and Kealakeha (Kona) on Wednesday, Dec. 30 with the playoffs on Thursday, Dec. 31.
