Boys Basketball (11-5)
Breakers closed out their play in the Under Armour/Torrey Pines Holiday Classic last week with a pair of tough losses against very talented teams. On Tuesday, Dec. 29, Riverside Poly (12-2) defeated the Breakers 63-47 at Santa Fe Christian High School in Solana Beach. Blake Burzell’s 18 points led the squad followed by Isaac Wullf with 15. The following day Sonora (9-6) took third place in the Governor’s Division with a 59-43 win over Laguna. Burzell and Darin Richardson were Laguna’s high point scorers each with 13 points.
Breakers 82nd league run opens Friday, Jan. 8 at Godinez at 7 p.m. The defending champion Grizzlies are 8-8 on the season. Next week the Breakers are at Costa Mesa on Wednesday, Jan. 13, and host Saddleback on Friday, Jan. 15.

Girls Basketball (9-6)
Breakers went 3-1 in Hawaii winning their division with a 46-41 victory over Canyon Crest Academy (San Diego), 34-28 win over Kohala, and 49-28 over another Big Island opponent, Kealakehe. In a crossover game on Thursday, Dec. 31, Laguna lost 32-27 to a club team from Algester/Brisbane, Australia. Jackie Cenan continues to be the top scorer for Laguna, averaging nearly 17 points per game. Already the number two all-time scorer at 1,371 points, she has a shot at breaking Emily Writer’s career mark of 1,570 points. Alexandra Lewis became the third Laguna player to hit the 1,000-point mark, entering this past week’s games at 1,003 for her career. She is already the all-time three-point shot maker with 210 long-rangers.
Breakers opened league play on Thursday, Jan. 7 at Godinez (5-8) and play next week at Costa Mesa on Tuesday, Jan. 12, before hosting Saddleback (3-10) on Thursday, Jan. 14, in Dugger Gym.
