Laguna local Jheri St. James, an award-winning dancer and instructor, will offer a free preview of a belly dancing class from 7:30-9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, in Studio 2 at the Susi Q. Community Center, 380 Third St.

The evening will include live performances, refreshments, and class time activities in the art of belly dancing.

Learn about finger cymbals, veil dancing, ethnic cane dance and sword dancing and joining the performance group JJ & the Habibis Laguna Beach Belly Dancers.

Business Club Invites All to Hear Guest Speaker

Pamela Berkson, a nurse practitioner and associate clinical professor at the UC Irvine Medical Center, speaks to the Laguna Beach Business at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19.

Date Set for Lifeguard Tryouts

Sign-in for lifeguard tryouts begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Main Beach Lifeguard White Tower on Saturday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 14.

Attendance at one test session is required. Candidates must be ready to enter the water at 9 a.m. and the application completed and submitted prior to Feb. 26 at 4 p.m.

Chris Grant and Michelle Cleary were awarded scholarships funded by a $20,000 grant from the Laguna Beach Assistance League to the Collaborative Courts Foundation.

The grant was designated for assisting participants in meeting transportation, medical, dental, vision, and education needs.

The presentation was made in the chambers of Superior Court Judge Matthew Anderson in the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach with two Assistance League members.

SEEDS Arts and Education will hold their third Annual TerraVita Herbal Symposium Saturday, Feb. 28 and Sunday, March 1 at Anneliese Schools’ Willowbrook campus, 20062 Laguna Canyon Rd.

The weekend gathering offers hands-on workshops on herbal medicine, plant walks, music and a marketplace.

Tickets are $70 for one day or $115 for both days. There is a children’s program from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sunday for $60.

Laguna local Oday Shakar recently scored a nice gig designing gowns for flower girls and models in the wedding of Lance Bass and Michael Turchin in December.

The celebrity wedding was to be shown this week during “Lance Loves Michael,” on the E! network.
