Bicyclists Ignore Traffic Laws, Too

Editor,

I have no problem sharing the road with any other user as long as they follow the appropriate laws (“Bike Lanes Planned for North Laguna,” June 17 edition).

As the number of bicycle riders has increased so has the hazard. Many of them do signal intention of turns. The problem comes when they roll through stop signs. Most of them do this. Too often drivers approaching from the side are surprised when confronted with the biker. This insistence on not stopping at stop signs has become a very sore point with me.

As for pedestrians, The walk – don’t walk signs are there for a good reason and need to be obeyed. Walking against the light puts the driver at risk from on coming traffic as they wait for these people to cross.

Personally, I would rather share the road with the skateboards. These riders at least try to travel safely.
