Laguna split their remaining Newport Elks games last week starting with a 2-1 victory over St Paul on Wednesday, March 11, at home. Junior Will McInerny pitched a complete game allowing five hits striking out nine in the effort. Will was also two for two in batting, driving in one of the two scores for the Breakers. On Friday, Ashton Goddard had another good outing, but Laguna bats were limited to only five hits in a tough 5-1 loss at Paramount. The Pirates are the Southern Section’s largest high school with nearly 4,900 students.

Laguna returns to action on Friday, March 20, when they travel to Costa Mesa (1-6) for the league opener. Breakers then return to Skipper Carrillo Field on Tuesday, March 24, when they will face Saddleback. League play is 15 games consisting of three rounds against the five league opponents.
