Neev runner up for second straight year

The defending cross-country champs could only muster a seventh place finish at state finals on Nov. 27 at Fresno’s Woodward Park. Senior Matt Neev led most of the race but was out-kicked down the stretch by defending champion Daniel Milechman of Marin County’s Tamalpias High to conclude his cross country career with a second straight runner up finish.

Neev’s 15:25 set a new Laguna Beach High standard on the Woodward Park course, breaking his mark from last year by 19 seconds.

Junior Jeff White finished second for the Breakers and 32nd overall with a time of 16:43. Senior Aaron Swartz (16:52) was next in 42nd place, followed by juniors Tyler Nichols (17:12) in 66th and Ryan Jones (17:16) in 72nd. Senior Alec Toro (17:18) and sophomore Mitchell Kimball (17:31) finished sixth and seventh for the Breakers.
