Laguna closed out the regular season with their 98thconsecutive league victory in a 25-17, 25-16, 25-23 win at Estancia on Tuesday, May 1. Key players in the win were Geste Bianchi with 10 kills, a solo block and two block assists; Drake Bell with nine kills, a solo block and a block assist; and Andrew Reavis with nine kills, three aces and a block assist.

The following day, Laguna dropped a tough 25-18, 23-25, 23-25, 25-17, 13-15 loss to Dana Hills at the Dolphin’s gym.

Geste Bianchi had 27 kills with Sam Burgi adding 22. The match difference were the 14 service error differential between the Breakers and Dana (11-11) with the loss coming despite a school record 91 points scored on kills, blocks, and aces for a five set rally match. Laguna still leads the series 37-11.

Laguna had their hands full this past Tuesday as they hosted five-ranked Huntington Beach (25-5) in the opening round of the D1 CIF playoffs. Breakers are the only Southern California team to have played in all 45 years of the playoffs and currently hold a 100-38 record entering Tuesday’s contest.

The Breakers and Oilers have only met twice in the playoffs with Huntington taking both contests in 1994 and 96.
