Twelfth-ranked Laguna traveled to No. 17 Murrieta Valley on Saturday, Sept. 30 and held off the Nighthawks second half comeback for a 10-7 victory. Breakers took an early 2-0 lead on goals by Riley Bumgardner at 2:56 in the first quarter and by Colton Gregory just before the quarter ended. Laguna stretched the score to 7-2 at the half, but had to dig in to hold off their hosts. Breakers were excluded 10 times and earned 11 power play opportunities. Breakers will host their chief league rival when a vastly improved Costa Mesa comes to the Laguna Community Pool on Wednesday, Oct. 11.
