Campaigns Encourage DUIs

Editor,

It’s amazing to me that any candidate for office (including Kelly Boyd) would have a campaign party at the Marine Room or any other bar and send followers out into the streets of Laguna where the Laguna Beach Police Department is notorious for giving DUI tickets that can cost $10,000, give or take, and literally wreck people’s lives.

Of course people drink at most campaign events, so my wondering may be ridiculous, but a DUI ticket can mean traffic school, counseling, drug testing, and three month’s of house arrest plus probation and attorney fees, and you may not drive for as long as 18 months. If you should happen to get three DUI tickets, the new law says you will loose your license 10 years.

I have always wondered how much the city gets from each DUI ticket.

  1. Dear Roger,
I can’t help but notice your statement regarding DUIs, Quote: “DUI ticket can mean traffic school, counseling, drug testing, and three month’s of house arrest plus probation and attorney fees, and you may not drive for as long as 18 months. If you should happen to get three DUI tickets, the new law says you will loose your license 10 years.” End Quote.

No mention that people DIE and that’s why these tickets are issued????

Campaign parties are to blame for drunk driving? What? People are quite capable of celebrating and drinking responsibly while using designated drivers, or monitoring their alcohol. It isn’t the fault of anybody except the driver if somebody gets behind the wheel under the influence, regardless of WHERE they start out. What a silly letter.
