Individual champions Kelly Smith, Jade Howsen and Kiko Nelsen took top finishes in the most recent Scholastic Surf Series in San Clemente.

Many members of the Laguna Beach High School team competed successfully in multiple divisions.

LBHS took a lopsided win 62-3 against El Toro, which had a limited team.

Kelly Smith and Claire Kelly swept the shortboard final, respectively. Jade Howsen and Maya Takabayashi did the same in longboard.

Kiko Nelsen took first in longboard and third in shortboard. Lucas Jablon took fourth followed by a first time finalist Luca Elghanayan, who took fifth. Sam Nelsen took sixth in shortboard and longboard.

Joseph Schenck also managed double duty and made the finals in longboard, taking fifth overall.

The authors are coaches Alisa Cairns and Scott Finn.
