Presbyterians Celebrate Christmas

Services at Laguna Presbyterian Church this Sunday, Dec. 20, will include a Christmas Pageant: A Play in a Manger, presented by youngsters at the 8:30 and 10 a.m. service.

All are invited to the candlelight Christmas Eve worship services at the church, 415 Forest Ave., at 2, 4, 7 and 9 p.m. Each service concludes with the candlelight singing of “Silent Night” around the crèche in the rose garden at the corner of Forest Avenue and Second Street. Children’s Story in worship, a living Bethlehem Village, takes place in Tankersley Hall and nursery care for infants and toddlers is available at the 2 and 4 p.m. services only.

A bell choir performs at the 2 p.m. service, while choirs enrich the 4 and 7 p.m. services.

Methodists Feature Special Music

Operatic tenor Peter Foltz will perform a duet with Pastor Mandy Flemming at the 7:30 p.m. Christmas Eve service at Laguna Beach United Methodist Church.

Foltz was a resident artist with the Los Angeles Opera and Pittsburgh Opera Center. Flemming trained vocally in sacred music at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, N.J.

Foltz and Pastor Flemming are among a variety of musicians who will perform at the Carols and Candles service, symbolizing “The Light Shines in the Darkness.”

The church’s Chancel Choir will perform choral works alongside musicians. A quartet of high school choir members, Amber Smith, Claire Lisle, Davis Ferrero and Noah Epstein, will sing, “He is Born.” The church’s handbell choir will add their music to the service and the congregation will have an opportunity to sing Christmas carols.

At 11 p.m., the church’s contemporary singing group, Joyful Noise, will sing modern anthems and traditional carols.

All are welcome to both services at 21632 Wesley Dr. Childcare is available at the 7:30 p.m. service.

The public is invited for Christmas Eve at Neighborhood Congregational Church, which plans a non-traditional festival of lessons and carols at 7 pm.

Special music by Nick I, Pam Wicks, local singers, and a brass quartet accompany the telling of the timeless story of Christmas through scripture, poetry readings by John Gardiner, liturgical dance and a message from Reverend B. J. Beu.

Catholic Church Holds Christmas Eve Mass

On Christmas Eve, St. Catherine’s of Siena Catholic Church, 1042 Temple Terrace, will offer four services: 4:30 and 6:30 p.m., a service in Spanish at 8:30 p.m., and a late service at 10:30 p.m. At 5 p.m., a Christmas Eve service takes place at the parish school, 30516 S. Coast Highway.

On Christmas Day, St. Catherine holds mass at 7:30, 9 and 11 a.m.
