Methodists Ring In the Season

The Methodist Church will initiate the advent season Sunday, Nov. 30, with the “hanging of the greens” during the 10 a.m. worship service on Isaiah by Pastor Mandy Flemming.

The Alternative Christmas Market will be open for shopping after the service and on Dec. 7.

The church’s parking lot at 21632 Wesley Dr. is available for free parking for those attending the Montage resort tree lighting at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1.

At 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, the church will have an open house with a free concert of Christmas music performed by the piano quartet Sodalis composed of church members Pennie Foster, Deborah Glass, Daniel Thompson and Michael Vantrease. A 5:45 p.m. a free trolley will transport people who wish to attend Hospitality Night in downtown Laguna Beach. The trolley will return to the church at 9 p.m.

World Aids Day will be recognized on Sunday, Dec. 7, with a communion offering designated for AIDS ministry. Family Advent Night at 5 p.m. will offer an opportunity for families to gather to work on holiday crafts and sing carols

Las Posadas, a Christmas pageant performed by the children of the church, will be given on Sunday, Dec. 14.

Advent Series Offered at Catholic Church

St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church invites all to attend an advent video/lecture series, “Catholicism,” presented by Reverend Robert E. Barron.

The video will be shown at the start of advent, Monday, Dec. 1 and at its close Monday, Dec. 22. Both presentations will begin with a wine and cheese reception at 6:30 p.m., 1042 Temple Terrace.

Caroling, Tamales and More at Laguna Presbyterian

Carols, accompanied by live music, will be sung from 6-7 p.m. in the Rose Garden of the Laguna Presbyterian Church on Hospitality Night, Friday, Dec. 5.

Come by for coffee and hot apple cider from 5-7 p.m., 415 Forest Ave., and stop by the Heifer International table also. Be on the lookout for a two-legged, feathered guest.

Tamales will again be sold in Tankersley Hall with proceeds benefiting La Playa ELS Center. Hot dogs, chips, and bottled water will be for sale at the Forest Avenue entry to the Church Parlor with proceeds benefiting the Mom’s group of LPC.

Special Christmas events at the church will include a 5 p.m. Christmas Concert on Sunday, Dec. 7, the Children’s Christmas Musical at 8:30 and 10 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14 and Christmas Eve candlelight services at 2, 4, 7 and 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24.
