Join fellow skaters as city staff provides transportation to the Laguna Hills Skate Park on Saturday, June 4.

The cost is $10 and all skaters must bring a helmet, elbow, and kneepads.

Meet in of front of Laguna Beach City Hall at 9 a.m. Skaters will return no later than 1 p.m. Please register at least 72 hours in advance online at www.lagunabeachcity.net (click on Recreation Classes). Preregistration is required.

 

Old Flags Burned With Ceremony

Laguna Beach’s Cub Scout Pack 35 will hold its annual end of the year beach party and flag retirement ceremony at Aliso Beach fire pits on Tuesday, June 7.

They will dispose of flags in need of retiring with dignity, separating the 13 stripes that represent the original 13 colonies and the field of 50 stars that represent the states.

The pack burns the flag pieces in a fire pit during a rehearsed ceremony.

The Laguna Beach Democratic Club welcomes the public to join their annual picnic at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, in Heisler Park at Picnic Beach near Myrtle Street.

 

 

Workshop Aids New Merchants

The next Open for Business workshop takes place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 16, at the Laguna Beach Community Center, 380 Third St.

Workshop participants will include planning commissioners Anne Johnson and Roger McErlane, assistant planner Anthony Viera and representatives from the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce.

The workshops offer prospective Laguna Beach business owners a forum to discuss possible concerns and queries and contain useful information for existing business owners.

Three women sailors discuss first time boat ownership, Tuesday, June 7, at a free meeting of the local chapter of the Women’s Sailing Association open to the public.

The group holds meetings every first Tuesday of the month at Aventura Sailing Association, 24707 Dana Dr., in Dana Point Harbor. A 6:30 p.m. reception kicks off the talk by Lisa Cullinane, Brenda Highley and Karen Pacella, who will dispel fears about why people hesitate to buy boats.

Workshop to Review Changes to Historic Preservation Rules

A public workshop will review a revised draft of the city’s historic preservation ordinance with the Heritage Committee at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 16, in the City Council Chambers, 505 Forest Ave.

Topics have been discussed in workshops over the last year since a survey of historic properties was conducted by Ostashay and Associates Consulting, a historic preservation firm.

Chamber Hosts Splash Mixer

The Chamber of Commerce hosts a 5:30 p.m. membership mixer Thursday, June 9, at the Surf & Sand Resort, 1555 S. Coast Highway.

Members should expect a buffet, beverages and raffle prizes along with ocean views.

Admission is $15 for members and $45 for non-members. New members can attend free as can existing members who refer a new member.

Homeowners Can Insure Against Sewer Breaks

Laguna Beach has partnered with Service Line Warranties of America to provide Laguna Beach residents with an optional private sewer lateral warranty program, says a city statement.

The warranty helps property owners repair or replace aging private sewer lateral pipes. All Laguna Beach homeowners are eligible to enroll regardless of their sewer service provider.

The warranty policy can provide coverage of up to $4,000 for each sewer line repair plus additional funds if needed for cutting into the sidewalk or a public road.

Post-Holiday Trash Duty

Several locals scoured the now deserted South Laguna beaches after Memorial Day and retrieved sacks of trash, from diapers to condoms, beach towels to beer bottles.

Visitors seem too lazy to dispose of their debris in the many trash cans available, says a statement from James Pribram, Ecowarrior Foundation founder. “Please don’t litter our beaches and please don’t just walk past it. Pick it up, thank you.”
