Deadline Nears for Military Academy Applications
The service academy nomination application process for the Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., the Naval Academy at Annapolis, the Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y., and the Coast Guard Academy at New London, Conn., is underway. The deadline for applications is Oct. 31.
All require a congressional nomination except the Coast Guard Academy.
Qualified, well-rounded individuals are accepted for appointment and receive tuition-free education and may commission as a military officer upon graduation.

PTA Promotes Budding Artists
Experts in visual and performing arts led workshops last week at Top of the World Elementary, says a district statement.
“We’re hoping students can use the knowledge and ideas generated from the workshops to create an entry for the PTA Art Reflections contest,” Sarah Durand, TOW PTA president, said in the statement.
The National PTA contest invites entries from five grade-level divisions. Local PTAs select entries for regional and national consideration.
