Pulling the Curtain on a Saturday Academy 

The Claire Trevor School of the Arts at UC Irvine is having a Saturday Academy in Drama on Saturday, June 8 to familiarize middle- and high-school students, their parents and teachers with the school’s award-winning drama program.

The Academy will cover acting and improvisation technique and audition tips. The $30 per person fee includes a boxed lunch, and the first 30 registrants will also receive a free ticket to that afternoon’s performance of “Spring Awakening,” the last drama production of the season.

Absorbing New Lessons

Sam Wellsfry, who graduated from LBHS last June, is spending a gap year as an AFS student in Brazil, learning to speak Portuguese and living with volunteer host families.

His sister, Sarah, who graduates next month, leaves for Ecuador in August for her gap year before starting college. Each received $1000 from AFS Laguna Beach towards tuition.

Dillon Pierce

Dillon T. Pierce, son of Tom and Wendy, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., on May 24 and was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Second Lieutenant Pierce, a 2009 graduate of Laguna Beach High School, earned a bachelor of science degree with a major in astronautical engineering. Following graduation, Pierce has been assigned to The Basic School in Quantico, Va., where he will begin service in the United States Marine Corps.
