Local Casts Off for Saipan
Gunnar Burns, 22, a longtime Laguna Beach surfer, has been deployed to the southwest Pacific island of Saipan aboard the U.S.N.S. Charlton, part of the Military Sealift Command that supports U.S. Navy ships.
Burns, who attended Anneliese School and El Morro Elementary in Laguna Beach, graduated from Dana Hills High in 2010. Burns attended Saddleback College before joining the United States Merchant Marine in 2013.
Clean Up Starts at Home
Members of the volleyball team at St. Margaret’s Episcopal School in San Juan Capistrano decided to make a point of reducing waste during their matches and tournaments and support the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach along the way.
Team members placed recycle boxes and bags behind the team benches for recycling water bottles, which will be dropped at recycling centers and proceeds donated to PMMC at the end of the season, said team mom Becky Visconti, of Laguna Beach.
