Girls Rocket to Science Camp
Nine Thurston Middle School seventh-graders will attend Tech Trek, a summer science camp, courtesy of the American Association of University Women’s Laguna Beach branch.
The girls selected are Sophia Ravenna, Sophia Lander, Chloe Gabora, Sydney Eckberg-Rogers, Leah West, Alessi Ayvaz, Stella Rhee, Liela Andringa and Maya Gallego.
The current group brings to 100 the number of campers sponsored by the branch since 1998. The girls, nominated by science and math teachers, also underwent a selection process that included an essay and interview. This year’s girls will attend camps at UC Irvine and Whittier College, where they meet mentors and receive career advice.
