The Combining pop-rock, musical comedy and a 21st century sensibility, “Striking 12,” weaves Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fable “The Little Match Girl” with a modern-day New Year’s Eve twist. The holiday treat suitable for audiences of all ages begins previews at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, and opens on Saturday, Dec. 6. “Striking 12” is based on the book, music and lyrics by Brendan Milburn, Rachel Sheinkin and Valerie Vigoda, the musical trio GrooveLily and direction by Janet Roston. The show received the Bay Area Theatre Critic’s Choice award for its concert-with-a-story. The show runs through Sunday, Dec. 28 at the Laguna Playhouse, 606 Laguna Canyon Road.
