Patient information at the Laguna Beach Community Clinic is now available to staff through electronic medical records, a system a year in planning.

The system is hosted by Oregon Coastal Health Information Network, a co-operative that provides access to top of the line systems that would otherwise be out of reach to small community clinics. “Today, we’re operating with the same level of technology as the best hospitals in the nation,” said Dr. Jorge Rubal, the clinic’s associate director, who led the transition between paper and electronic record keeping.

“With our new EMR, we’re able to better share information with a patient’s entire care team, including sub-specialists and health organizations,” Rubal added.

Locals played a big role in bringing EMR to the clinic. Help came from the Assistance League, the Draper and Ueberroth families as well as hundreds of individual donations. Local hotels, including, The Inn at Laguna Beach, The Art Hotel, The Holiday Inn, Hotel Laguna, and La Casa Del Camino helped by lodging visiting technicians training clinic staff.

“The Clinic belongs to the community and this show of support underscores that Laguna Beach takes good care of its people,” Rubal said.
