Laguna Beach Community Clinic’s cardiologist Orson Dee says Valentine’s Day serves as a good reminder that we need to take care of our hearts to keep them healthy.

To do so, Dee recommends controlling blood pressure and cholesterol, exercising regularly, following a healthy diet, and taking prescribed medicines faithfully. Following this regime will prevent many serious heart illnesses.

“While we don’t have the resources to do complex procedures, we manage illnesses such as atrial fibrillation, high blood pressure, coumadin monitoring, and cholesterol problems,” said Dee, a 12-year clinic volunteer who practiced in Santa Monica until retiring to south county.

New pharmacy programs with generic medication have made the more common prescriptions affordable to most, said Dee, who also volunteered elsewhere. “This clinic practices consistently good medicine,” he said. “It is well managed financially and well run medically, and it is a pleasure to work there.”
