Members of Laguna Beach Girl Scout Troop 789, Ashley Andrews and Crystal La France, partnered with the Clean Water Now! Coalition to complete two beach cleanups in two weeks, the organization reported.

On June 18 and July 2, the girls took turns at promoting, leading, organizing and educating almost 100 volunteers, who removed hundreds of pounds of trash from the general Main Beach area.

Moms Stephanie Andrews and Kelly Crean, who distributed water quality and tide pool brochures to volunteers, assisted the California Coastal Commission’s designated local beach cleanup manager Roger E. Butow.

The two cleanups count towards the scouts’ community service Gold Award Project requirements.

The next coastal cleanup day is Sept. 17.
