Police arrested a driver for suspicion of DUI and child endangerment after a collision Saturday, June 25, and then arrested his girlfriend on the same charges when she arrived at the police department to pick up his passenger while transporting her children, police said.

The 13-year-old son of a driver, 50, of Aliso Viejo, was in the car when it rear-ended another vehicle in the 2700 block of Laguna Canyon Road about 9:37 p.m., Sgt. Tim Kleiser said. No one was injured.

The driver asked that his 47-year-old girlfriend, of Trabuco Canyon, come to the police department to pick up the boy, Kleiser said. She drove to the station with her two children, ages 7 and 10, but was also arrested for suspicion of DUI and child endangerment, Kleiser said.

One child was released to a friend and the other two were released to their mother after she sobered up, he said. Both were released on $100,000 bail, he said.

In October 2016, the case was settled with the Orange County Superior Court, and the charges of child endangerment dropped by the district attorney after the mother voluntarily completed a parenting class. “Through the experience and its consequences I have a renewed appreciation and respect for the law and safety of my family,” the woman said in an email in July 2017.

The case was settled with the Orange County Superior Court and included no child endangerment charges against the father. “This was a very regretful incident. Its impact to my family and friends helped to renew my sense of parental and social responsibilities,” the father involved wrote.

Thieves Flee on High-End Bikes

Two men were observed fleeing the 800 block of Glenneyre Street on bikes about 5 a.m. Sunday, June 26, which was preceded by the sound of breaking glass, police said.

Thieves shattered storefront windows in a bike shop and made off with Intense bikes valued at $9,800 each, according to the owner.

“If you see two teenagers trying to sell these bikes, or you see two riders riding on bikes way above their pay-grade or don’t fit right, or anything suspicious, please call the police right away!” Laguna Beach Cyclery shop owner Patrick Fetzer said in a Facebook post.
