Seedling Sale at Farmers Market

Transition Laguna Beach Food Group will be selling vegetable seedlings at the Farmers Market, Saturday, June 29.

The selection includes of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, summer and winter squash, horseradish, eggplant, herbs, kale and lettuce ready for planting.

Their booth is located at the back of the market on Local’s Lane.

My Hero Honored with a Telly Award

My Hero Project received a 2013 Telly Award for its global, online video archive of hero stories.

The mission of Laguna Beach-based My Hero is to use media, art, and technology to empower people of all ages to realize their own potential to effect positive change in the world.

The Telly Awards was founded in 1978 to honor excellence in programs and commercials on local and regional television stations and cable.

 

Parisi Now Certified

Laura Parisi, Laguna Beach’s city treasurer, recently earned the certified fixed income practitioner certificate by finishing Fixed Income Academy’s training program for public agencies, institutional bond investors and fiduciaries.

Parisi, a 14-year city treasurer, oversees the city’s investment portfolio, assessment districts, bonds and banking and serves the County of Orange Treasury Oversight Committee, as well as the California Municipal Treasurers’ Association.

 

Art Lovers Raise Money for Art Education

Lovers of fine art and supporters of Laguna College of Art and Design succeeded again in coming together to raise over $176,000 to benefit student programs and scholarships at the college’s 24th annual Collector’s Choice Fine Art Event and Auction. With the incentive of a matching challenge from David and Suzanne Chonette, a record of nearly $45,000 dollars was raised for scholarships during the “Fund a Student” segment of the live auction.

Artists collectively contributed 142 pieces valued at approximately $200,000.

 

Rotary Announces Community Grant Recipients

The Rotary Club of Laguna Beach recently hosted a luncheon at Aliso Creek Inn where representatives of several of the community’s organizations and grant recipients described how they planned to utilize the funds.

Grants of up to $1,500 were made to: Laguna Canyon Foundation, Laguna Beach Community Clinic, Glenwood Housing Foundation, American Association of University of Women, Sally’s Fund, LOCA CSP Youth Shelter, Teen Project, TOW PTA, Boys’ and Girls’ Club, Boys’ and Girls’ TLC Branch, Protecting Unwanted Pets, Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, Friendship Shelter and the Laguna Beach Concert Band.
