Consider the Future

Editor,

One of man’s biggest obstacles is that too many folks have a lot of trouble seeing beyond the end of their noses. All they can think about is the here and now, not thinking or caring about the future.

This not only applies to wilderness preservation, including vast ranch lands and military bases, land that is often wilderness or near wilderness, but also needed infrastructure projects like Laguna’s flood control channel project. Yes, the downtown merchants need to pay their monthly bills, income no doubt lost during a nine-month flood control project.  But what about losses they will incur when future 10 – 15 year similar floods occur (i.e.. like the one that just occurred)? What about their own future as well as folks that will someday buy today’s downtown shops. We sure have trouble thinking about the future.
