‘Contemporary Abstraction’ Extends it’s Stay

Art exhibit “Contemporary Abstraction,” at The CAP Gallery, 260 Ocean Ave., has been extended to run to Saturday, Aug. 20.

The exhibit juried by Ellie Blankfort and showcases the works of Kate Cohen, Halverson Frazier and Fred Hope.

Viewers are given an opportunity to experience three diverse views and approaches to the world of abstract art during viewing hours 9-6 p.m., Monday through Friday and 9-4 p.m., Saturday.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Photo Contest Supports Coastal Restoration

Artists, photographers and friends of the Laguna Bluebelt Coalition attended a reception for the fifth annual Bluebelt photo contest at the Susi Q Gallery, Friday, June 10.

The winner of the contest was local resident Rich German with his composition, “Sunrise From The Bottom Of The Sea,” which captures gray whales migrating through Laguna Beach during their annual journey from Alaska to birthing sanctuaries in Baja California.

Judges Mark Chamberlain from BC Space Gallery, freelance photographer Mitch Ridder and underwater photographer Beverly Factor reviewed 80 entries.

Coordinators Jinger Wallace and Charlotte Masarik aim to protect and restore coastal resources through the contest.

 

LCAD Welcomes Artist In Residence

Representational painter and printmaker Jian Wang from China will serve as artist-in-residence at Laguna College of Art and Design, the president announced.

During a six-week residency, Wang will teach two $40 per person workshops: figure and portrait drawing or painting from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. on July 5-7, and July 11 and landscape painting on location from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 12-15.

Dawson Cole Fine Art gallery in Laguna Beach represents him and his students’ work will also be exhibited there.

Cove Gallery presents new work by the Australian-born artist Sallie-Anne Swift who now lives and works in Long Beach.

Paintings made on different surfaces are combined to create 3D pieces, whose subjects are the ocean.

Meet the artist at a reception on July 7 at first Thursday Art Walk from 6-9 p.m., 1492 S. Coast Highway.
