News from the Indy travels worldwide. The week following my guest column (“Tales of the Trail”, Aug. 7) on the San Clemente Beach trail, I received an email from the United Nations Environment Programme [UNEP] in Nairobi, Kenya. This UN Agency directs the worldwide transportation initiative called “Share the Road,” whose main goal is to develop policies and investments in walking and cycling infrastructure.
UNEP requested additional background information on the San Clemente project, including the successful collaboration between the various stakeholders and the multiple reviewing agencies involved. It appears that this popular trail project will have positive impacts well beyond our region, as lessons-learned are incorporated into international guidelines for multi-use trails. Thank you for helping to share this story.
