Laguna Captures League Titles
Laguna boys coached by Scott Wikkop and girls coached by Steve Lalim swept the 12th annual Orange Coast League meet Monday, Oct. 30, at Centennial Park in Santa Ana.
The boys snapped Godinez’ run as the top program as the Breakers captured their first league title since 2014 and their seventh in league history. Ryan Smithers, Luc LaMontagne and Zachary Falkowski took top honors with a 1-2-3 finish with Cal Nelson (10) and Mateo Bianchi (14) rounding out the scoring. The top 10 runners are also selected all-league.
On the girls side, Costa Mesa’s Diane Molina won the meet, but Laguna finished 2-3-6-7-8-9 with the squad also earning all-league honors. Evie Cant, Jessie Rose, Angelina Dyrnaes, Sierra Reed, Grace LaMontagne, and Kaitlin Ryan led the Breakers to their sixth straight title and the program’s 10th in the 12-year league history.
Section prelims are Nov. 11 and the final Nov. 18. The top three league teams advance to the SS CIF prelims with the top 24 teams advancing into the final. Divisions are still based on enrollment with Laguna in Division 4 (enrollment 601-1429). The top seven section division teams will then advance to the state meet Nov. 25 in Fresno. Breakers have made it to the section finals the past 18 seasons for boys and 14 seasons for girls.
