Los Angeles-based choreographer, performer and dance instructor Saleemah E. Knight will teach a master dance class at Laguna Beach High School.

Intermediate and advanced dance students are invited to participate in a master class taught by choreographer and performer Saleemah E. Knight, who was a featured dancer in the Broadway musical “The Lion King” and has choregraphed several pieces for the stage and screen.

“Watching Saleemah work with young dancers is magic,” said local resident and Laguna Dance Festival founder Jodie Gates, vice dean and director of the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance.

Master classes are part of the Laguna Dance Festival’s mission to nurture dance education year-round, says a festival statement.

Knight currently teaches jazz and modern dance technique and performance-based courses at USC and at master classes worldwide. The school is currently holding auditions for the inaugural class, which begins this fall.

Knight’s master class takes place Saturday, Feb. 21, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the dance studio at Laguna Beach High School, 625 Park Ave. The class and Q&A session are open to dancers ages 12 and older; cost is $25 to participate, while observers may sit in for $15.
