Thank you for the article uncovering the problems detox houses are causing in our town. There are new developments every week (e.g., addict residents entering neighbors’ homes, addict residents harassing young girls, syringes left in gutters, increased crime in the vicinities, etc.), so story updates are in plentiful supply. Addicts deserve to get proper care, whereas the incompetent detox homes we’ve seen are not serving the addicts or the community – only their owners’ wallets.
Everyone can help in these ways:
- Report problems to Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) (click “Complaint Form” link at http://www.dhcs.ca.gov/individuals/Pages/Sud-Complaints.aspxand fill out a complaint form)
- Urge Assembly Member Matthew Harper to weaken CA Health and Safety Code 1566 (click the “Email Matthew” link at https://ad74.asmrc.org/).
- Share concerns with our mayor, city council members, city manager, and code enforcement officer (http://www.lagunabeachcity.net/directory/default.htm).
