A 29-year-old Anaheim man in an early morning diving class at Crescent Bay Beach ascended too rapidly and lost consciousness Sunday, Aug. 16, police said.
The diver was brought ashore by an instructor about 8:58 a.m. and treated by fire personnel before being transported to nearby El Morro School. The diver, who was not further identified, was then taken by Mercy Air to a hospital for further treatment, Sgt. Tim Kleiser said.

Petty theft. 200 block of Forest Ave. 1:16 p.m. Someone took four credit cards from a wallet in a purse left on a seat.

Sexual battery. 2100 block of S. Coast Hwy. 3:43 p.m. A resident reported an unwanted hug from a staff member, which was reported to police by his father.
Stolen vehicle. S. Coast Hwy. 10:27 p.m. Sandeep Pradip Dalal, 37, of Walnut, was arrested for suspicion of car theft after keeping a rental past its contract; passenger Christina Coultas, also 37, of Anaheim, was arrested for suspicion of drug paraphernalia after a car search turned up a meth pipe.

Indecent exposure. 600 block of Laguna Canyon Rd. 11 p.m. Police were unable to locate a man who allegedly exposed himself in the men’s room.

Traffic stop. Broadway St. 2 a.m. Eduardo Albarran, of Santa Ana, was arrested for suspicion of marijuana related drug charges.
Petty theft. 31600 block of Scenic Drive. 3:30 p.m. A resident reported the theft of a $1,500 ring embedded with an 1870 gold coin.
Property. 30800 block of Coast Hwy. 8:28 p.m. A park visitor turned in an engagement ring left on a restroom sink.
Drunk driving. S. Coast Hwy. 8:57 p.m. Described by a witness entering a car “blistering drunk,” police arrested Hal Anthony Heywood, 53, of Capistrano Beach for suspicion of DUI. Due to a prior offense, he was held for $10,000 bail.

Fraud. 400 block of Hilledge Dr. 8:30 p.m. A grandmother who made a $1,300 wire transfer suspects she fell for a phone scam after a man claiming to be her grandson called asking for money.
Traffic collision. 1300 block of N. Coast Hwy. 10:06 p.m. A driver and a passenger both suffered head injuries after a motorist attempted a u-turn and struck another vehicle.
Saturday, Aug. 15
Traffic collision. 31300 block of Coast Hwy. 12:23 a.m. A motorist that hit a parked car and tried to leave the scene was forced to flee on foot when the vehicle was disabled. Police arrested Jimmy C. Dunn, 27, of El Cajon, for suspicion of car theft and hit and run. He was found hiding in a restroom. Bail was set at $20,000.
Bar check. 200 block of Ocean Ave. 1 a.m. Two 19-year-old Laguna Niguel girls received citations for phony IDs.
Fraud. 200 block of Forest Ave. 9:32 a.m. A Florida man reported that someone in Laguna Beach had fraudulently used his credit card for $300 in purchases at a local store.
Vandalism. 1400 block of Coast Hwy. 2:57 p.m. About $1,000 worth of damage was done to room doors.
Medical aid. 300 block of Club Dr. 3:44 p.m. A 54-year-old male skateboarder who hit his head on a curb is unable to move his legs.
Drug activity. 31800 block of S. Coast Hwy. 6:48 p.m. A staff person found a patient due to be discharged in a restroom with heroin. Shayne Ian Bresette, 19, of Huntington Beach, was arrested for suspicion of felony possession of narcotics, 9.1 grams of heroin.
Petty theft. 30800 block of Coast Hwy. 7:37 p.m. Surveillance video shows two females with a young child taking $300 in baby food.
