Ribbon-Cutting Wraps Up Shelter Makeover

 

Due to expansion, the shelter can now accept stray cats.

The public is invited to the official reopening of the Laguna Beach City Animal Shelter at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 20612 Laguna Canyon Road.

 

City staff will be conducting tours of the renovated facility following the ribbon cutting by the mayor.

 

Improvements to the dog kennels include new floor and wall treatments, stainless steel gates and cages, and a new in-floor heating system.  Expanded space for stray cats and an enclosed quarantine area also top the list of improvements. Significant improvements have been made to prevent future flooding.

 

The shelter is open to the public seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and can be reached at (949) 497-3552.

 

 

Calling Pet Owners, Chili Chefs

 

Plan on a hot time Sunday, Sept. 11, with pets and chili cooks competing at the Laguna Board of Realtors 15th Annual Chili Cook-Off and Pet Parade from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

This year bidders in the live auction vie over seven pet houses  designed and built by local architects and contractors. View the houses at the online bidding site “biddingforgood.com/lagunaprojectpethouse”.

 

The houses remain on display through Sept. 11 at Tivoli Too, 777 Laguna Canyon Rd. where bidding begins at 12:30 pm.

 

Aspiring and professional chili chefs are invited to submit recipes and samples of their fiery concoctions for review by a panel of local judges.

 

Pet owners of all ages can also compete for awards by entering their pets in the six different categories: most handsome, prettiest female, most talented, most beautiful rescue pet, best costume and most gorgeous senior (10 years & older). Pet’ strut their stuff in a pet parade finale.

 

The event raises funds for the three Laguna Beach animal charities, Laguna Beach Animal Shelter, Pacific Marine Mammal Center and  The Bluebell Foundation for Cats.

Burgers and Bingo Help Pet Rescue

 

The community is invited to attend a benefit for the Animal Cracker Pet Rescue on Sept. 17 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Aliso Creek Inn.

Burgers and Bingo hosted by Bingo Boy and his raucous drag queen assistant, Belle Aire. Raffle and no host bar.

A Dog-gone Birthday

Dog owners and their pooches celebrated Yappy Hour, hosted by the OC Chihuahua/Small Dog meet-up group and Laguna Beach dog boutique Anything Canine On Monday, Aug. 22,.

 

to celebrate Chloe birthday. Starting at 6 p.m., the party featured doggie and owner shopping and networking followed by a birthday party for Chloe the Chihuahua, complete with cake, champagne, pupcakes, games, and prizes.
