Dennis Cadreau was visiting his family in Laguna Beach for a long weekend from East Jordan, Mich. A body surfing accident at Divers Cove left him paralyzed and after a 16 day battle he died from complications from his injuries.

He was 62 years old.

His father Dr. John Cadreau and sister Denise Cadreau predeceased him.

Cadreau was a beloved son, brother and uncle. He earned his bachelor’s and doctor of veterinary medicine degreesĀ at Michigan State University and remained a loyal Spartan. Cadreau owned and operated House Calls Veterinary Services. He was an animal lover and caring veterinarian.

Cadreau was an accomplished, award-winning sailor who raced his own boat and crewed on others. He also raced in the Chicago/Mackinac Race multiple times. Cadreau was in a competitive ski league at Boyne Mountain and helped disabled skiers at Challenge Mountain enjoy Michigan winters. He participated in a mini triathlon, golfed a good game, mountain biked, chopped his own wood and snowboarded way too fast. Cadreau is survived by his mother Jane Cadreau, sister Liza Barrett, brother-in-law Brad Barrett and nephews Bret and John Barrett. He will be greatly missed by his family, awesome friends and dogs and cats everywhere.
