Dressler Clarifies Initiation of Funds Raised for Theatre

Editor,

Thanks for the article in this week’s Indy (“Dressler to Take His Last Bow,” Jan. 26 edition).

Just to clarify, in case someone has any issues:  When we introduced the idea of initiating a Renaissance of the Performing Arts program, a group of Laguna citizens had already begun raising funds to refurbish the Artists’ Theatre.

I’m afraid the article might give the idea that Mark Dressler was the guy behind the raising of a considerable amount of money to complete the first renovation.  Actually, people like Lucinda Prewitt and Sam Goldstein had already initiated fundraising with the Community Campaign. Scores of Laguna community members donated the tens of thousands of dollars to upgrade the interior of the theatre. It was extremely fortuitous that the resurgence of the drama, dance, and choral music programs happened at the same time as the Community Campaign.

Again, I count my blessings to have worked in a community that has been so extremely supportive, generous and appreciative of our high school performing arts programs!

Thanks again,

Mark Dressler, Dana Point

The author is the high school’s retiring drama teacher.
