Sydney Mangus, a Thurston Middle School student, will travel to Cap Haitian, Haiti, on a nine-day medical mission trip with the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Irvine in January.
While there, the eighth grader will be responsible for teaching basic first aid and distributing 25 first aid kits. She is hoping for community help with donations for her project. Sydney’s goal are kits that contain Band-Aids, gauze, ace bandages, scissors, tweezers and gloves.
“She is at the right age to understand and see how the majority of people live in the world, and how people struggle with basic necessities that we take for granted in the United States,” says her mother Pam.
