A memorial celebration for longtime resident Elinor Van’t Hoog will be held Monday, Aug. 20, at Laguna Beach’s Marine Room Tavern.

Van’t Hoog died July 22 at Mission Hospital following a long illness. She was 60.

After she moved to Laguna in the early 1970s, hers became a familiar face around town as she worked in many of Laguna’s iconic establishments including the Renaissance Café, the Marine Room, the Cellar restaurant, Zinc Café and the Royal Hawaiian. She was also employed at Coast Hardware, Starbucks, Townend’s clothing and the Carriage House.

Van’t Hoog was born Oct. 6, 1951, in La Jolla and grew up in Del Mar. During her early years, she worked as a horse handler at the Del Mar track.

She is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Sanchez; and three sisters, Lise Knutson, Helen Buchanan and Caroline Perkins, all of San Diego County.

The potluck memorial celebration begins at 5:30 p.m.
