Chicago jazz singer Spider Saloff brings her many talents to Laguna for the first time Feb. 15 in Laguna Beach Live!’s Jazz Wednesdays series at Seven-Degrees, 891 Laguna Canyon Road.

The venue offers a full bar and a buffet dinner for purchase. Concerts are 6 to 8 p.m. and the doors and kitchen open at 5 p.m. for dinner.

No Square Gets a Jump on Valentine’s Day

Vocalist Saif Eddin entertains with Valentine music through the ages in a cabaret setting Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11, at 7:30 p.m. at No Square Theatre, 384 Legion St.

The community theater is also accepting applications for Square Roots, kids theater program directed by Ella Wyatt. And auditions for Laguna TOTS, also directed by Wyatt, are scheduled for Feb. 13-14 for youngsters ages 6-18.

Other shows in the coming months include a new one-woman show by Roxanna Ward, “Alone…and Somewhat Together,” April 8-9, and “School of Rock” in March.

Radio Station Offers a Double Bill: Beatles and Iron Butterfly

Relive the ‘60s with a laser light show and the rock band Iron Butterfly at a benefit concert Saturday, Feb. 18, at Laguna Playhouse, a fundraiser for local radio station KX 93.5.

Tickets are $35 and the show begins at 7:30 p.m.

The following night, also at the Playhouse, 606 Laguna Canyon Road, radio host Jason Feddy will emcee a free screening of “A Hard Day’s Night” on Sunday, Feb. 19, with donations also benefitting the station.

The audience is encouraged to sing along with the lyrics projected on screen to the Beatles hits. There will also be a Beatles-themed costume contest. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at www.KX935.com

 

Join a Critical Conversation

The physicist, string theorist, and best-selling author Brian Greene will present Wild Science: How We Fit Into the Cosmos in Soka University’s Critical Conversations on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m.

Greene’s national bestseller “The Elegant Universe” recounts the theories of general relativity and quantum mechanics. He is described by the Washington Post as “the single best explainer of abstruse concepts in the world today.”

Taco and Beer Fest Returns         

Tickets are on sale for the fourth annual Sabroso Craft Beer, Taco & Music Festival at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point on Saturday, April 8 from 1-9 p.m.

Musical headliner Dexter Holland and The Offspring will be joined by Sum 41, Rival Sons, Lit, Unwritten Law, and the heavy metal mariachi band, Metalachi.
