“ ‘Cinderella’ allows us to introduce young audiences to the magic of live theatre, which is important to me as an educator,” said drama teacher and director Alexis Karol. “At the same time, this unique adaptation offers something for students, parents, and grandparents alike.”

Karol collaborated with music director Roxanna Ward and guest director and choreographer Paul Nygro, whose credits include “A Chorus Line” on Broadway and television’s “Grease Live.”

“Over 80 students contribute on stage, backstage, and in the orchestra pit,” said Karol. The production features six younger cast members from Top of the World, El Morro and Thurston schools, she said.

This version of the beloved fairy tale was adapted for television in 1957 with Julie Andrews and revived in 1997 with Whitney Houston.

The play transports a new generation to the kingdom of dreams-come-true. There is the inevitable happy ending, but this time the couple does it on their own terms with hysterical turns by the clueless stepsisters, self-centered stepmother and fabulously hip godmother.

Performances at the Artists Theatre, 625 Park Ave., are March 17, 18, 24, 25, 31 and April 1 at 7 p.m. and March 19, 26 and April 2 at 2:30 p.m. Presale tickets are available at lbhs.booktix.com, $10 for students, $15 for adults, and $20 for premium seating.
