Cross County

Laguna’s teams both finished eighth and missed qualifying for the state competition this season by just one place. The boys scored 223 for the top five, finishing just behind Harvard-Westlake at 213. Salesian won the title. Jack Crawford returned to the lineup finishing as Laguna’s top runner at 34th.  Also scoring were Grant Barton (38), Casey Koprowski (43),  Veda Rebollar (56), and Cameron Zuziak (73) out of the 118 runners that competed.

In the girls race, Laguna finished with 205 points just behind Crean Lutheran at 196. Breakers were the top public school in the division.  Scoring for the Breakers were Eliza Romero (29) followed by Pearl Shoemaker (40), Natalie Kimball (47), Janie Crawford (56) and Livie Clark (61). All the runners will return for 2012

 

Boys Water Polo

Breakers successful 2012 season ended with a tough 9-7 loss to No. 2 seed Santa Barbara in the SSCIF D-II semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Irvine’s Woollett Center adjacent to Irvine High School. Breakers (21-10) took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Riley Thomas but the Dons took advantage of their precision shooting to take a 4-3 lead at the quarter. In the second period, Santa Barbara extended their lead to 6-3 forcing Laguna to play catch-up the rest of the way. Breakers had numerous power-play opportunities but could never convert.  Sophomore Jack Dodson scored two goals in the match and has emerged to be a key player for next season.

The ringing of the bell after the 1964 football victory over Brea was a community event. Winter Sports Update

The 2013 season will start after the Thanksgiving break.

Boys basketball opens a promising season at the Godinez Tournament on Nov. 26 while girls basketball has a pair of non-league contests hosting Connelly on Nov. 28 and Sage Hill on Friday, Nov. 30. Girls soccer hosts Tustin on Nov. 27  and the boys host Dana Hills at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30 at Guyer Field. Our pre-season top 10 ranked girls water polo squad hits the pool hosting Dana Hills on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 4:15 p.m. at the community pool.
