Fall Sports Update: Breakers Claim Three League Titles

Girls Tennis (14-5) Captures League Championship

Brook Michaels captured the singles title at the seventh annual Orange Coast League championships taking the crown for Laguna for the fourth straight year.  Laguna doubles team of Chloe Mansour and Dominique Willette took that title continuing Laguna’s dominance in the event.

Division II CIF playoffs started this past week with Laguna seeded sixth in the 43-team playoff.  Breakers should advance to at least the quarterfinals scheduled for Monday.  San Marino, Arcadia, Canyon/Anaheim, and Claremont were given the top division seeds. This is the Breaker’s 24th straight season advancing to the playoffs,  where Laguna holds a 83-21 all-time post season record with 11 titles.

Girls Volleyball  (15-6 ) Earn League Champ Status

Breakers lost their regular season match this past Tuesday at South Coast League champion Dana Hills 25-22, 25-18, 25-16 still missing two starters. Breakers are hoping to be 100 percent next Tuesday when the IA playoffs begin with Laguna hosting their opening match at 7 p.m. in Dugger Gym. Breakers will be celebrating Senior Night as another talented class graduates.

Last week Laguna wrapped up their 34th league crown in the past 41 seasons with a 25-17, 25-12, 25-15 sweep of Godinez and a 25-9, 25-14, 25-9 sweep of Costa Mesa. Breakers expect a deep run again in the playoffs having made it to at-least the semifinals the past eight seasons.

Boys Water Polo (18-9) Also Coast League Champions

Like the volleyball squad, water polo has been nursing their share of injuries and absences as the regular season winds down. Last weekend the Breakers finished third at the Steve Pal Tournament . On Friday at Beckman, Laguna defeated Rio Mesa 19-2 and the host Patriots 14-6. Against Beckman, Riley Thomas scored seven goals. On Saturday, a short-handed Laguna team held off Northwood 12-10 at Santa Margarita, and then edged ML King 9-8 with six goals from Thomas and Camron Hauer adding three.

Missing both stars from the King game, Laguna lost to host Santa Margarita 8-7 in the semifinal contest.

On Tuesday, Breakers lost to D-I power, El Toro 11-9 missing leading scorer Riley Thomas. Caleb Scott had three goals for Laguna while Duncan Lynde and Hauer added two scores each.

Laguna closed out their regular season on Wednesday with Aliso Niguel and will begin the D-II playoffs next Thursday. Pairings will post this Sunday, 9 a.m. at www.cifss.org .
