Fed Up With Cox’s Monopoly

Editor,

Regarding Steve Judson’s comment on Cox’s monopoly, although I receive excellent internet service from Cox I’m appalled at their price gouging as they’re “the only game in town” and able to get away with surreal pricing and significant increases each year.

I’m uncertain but isn’t this against FCC regulations – price gouging as well as competitive companies the public can choose from? I moved to Laguna Beach from Florida two years ago and was shocked to learn that I had no choice in my internet provider which again, allows Cox to do whatever they deem “acceptable”.

If you peruse the NextDoor site and inquire about Cox you will see that our community is outraged, there is no positive comment and in my opinion, something needs to be done by our elected town officials to rein them in.

When I moved here I was “welcomed” by Cox with an introductory offer of $59/month (for only internet) and the following year they raised my monthly fee to almost $90.  I called the company and complained and they deducted $10.  I have never paid these fees anywhere I have lived.

I vaguely remember about a year ago there was talk about Laguna Beach creating our own internet and I firmly believe this is long, long overdue.  The time for manipulative corporations making millions and millions in profits while they deliver sub-par service and price gouge their customers should understand that without their customers, they’re out of business.

Feel free to share this post with Steve Judson or our community.  Perhaps together we can accomplish something.  I’m in …
