Dear Lagunatics,

Many of you semi-old timers will remember me from LB Little League (late ‘80s through early 2000s). The past eight years I have been helping out over in Aliso Viejo LL, as I have two grandkids that have gone through that system (one year left).

I have managed and coached maybe a thousand kids in the last 30 or so years. The best hitter and the best player overall I have ever seen is a kid named Hudson Shilling. Not only is he an extraordinary athlete, he is even a better kid. With all his talent, he is a humble, quiet and respectful young man (13 years old). Hudson’s uncle played for me in Laguna and his grandparents have lived in Laguna for decades—they never miss his games.

Hud got some bad news a couple days ago—he has a type of cancer. He is in the hospital now and will be there for 10 days, returning home for a short period of time and then going back for another 10 days. Hud is a fighter and so I know he will beat this awful thing. But for now, he and his family need our help. A lady in Aliso Viejo, Kristin Knee, started a GoFundMe page for Hudson: www.gofundme.com/f/gpvb4-hudson-strong. Please take a look at it and do what you can to help out—this is a tough one!

Jim McLean, Laguna Beach
