Jazz Fusion Stars Perform in Free Concert

Award-winning modern jazz musicians Eric Marienthal, Brian Bromberg and special guest Jeff Lorber perfom in concert during the Festival of Arts’ music series on Saturday, Aug. 6 at 1 p.m.

Marienthal, one of the most recorded sax players in contemporary jazz, performed with Chick Corea’s Elekric Band. Bromberg, a bassist, composer and producer, has released critically acclaimed instrumental albums. He moves the bass beyond the rhythm section and out front as an ensemble’s lead voice.

Special guest, keyboardist and composer Lorber is one of the busiest musicians in smooth jazz history.

Each member of the trio is a Grammy Award-nominated musician who has contributed significantly to what jazz is known to be today. This jazz trifecta promises to be a highlight of the summer.

“Having these three extraordinary musicians together on one stage is a rare opportunity for jazz enthusiasts and Festival guests,” said Susan Davis, the festival’s special events director.

Passion replaces art works in the spotlight at the festival on Sunday, Aug. 7 at 3 p.m. as the special event series  “Art in Motion: From Hip Hop to Tango” continues.

Bringing authentic Argentine tango from the streets of Buenos Aires will be tango expert and instructor Marcelo Rivero. For 15 years, he has taught wanna-be dancers to Hollywood stars how to tango with elegance.

His dance choreography tells a story. When he and his partners perform it, the audience witnesses the story’s emotional arc, typically involving themes of tragic love.

“Argentine tango is one of the most iconic expressions of Argentinean culture,” said Davis. “We can’t wait to go on this journey.”

There is no extra cost for either performance beyond admission to the Festival of Arts ($7 for adults, $4 for seniors and students, free to residents).
