Picasso inspired Phil Savenick’s self-portrait.

Festival of Arts are invited to learn something of great artists Van Gogh, Picasso, Cezanne and Matisse with award-winning filmmaker Phil Savenick with his video presentation July 14, July 28 and Aug. 4.

In “Painting with Ghosts,” Van Gogh’s ghost welcomes Savenick to paint sunflowers in the garden outside his studio window; Picasso’s ghost is less inviting and kicks him out. Only after an intervention with Cezanne’s ghost does the filmmaker turned painter get to see where Pablo made his magic… then it’s off to live in Matisse’s Villa Le Reve for a week to invoke the spirits and paint in the master’s studio.

The special screenings at 1 p.m. will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker in the Forum Theater. The showing is free with festival admission, 650 Laguna Canyon Road.
