Final Jazz Concert Steps onto the Festival Stage

The Russell Ferrante Trio and saxophonist Bob Mintzer will play the final Concert on the Green at the Festival of Arts, 650 Laguna Canyon Road, Saturday, Aug. 20, from 1-2:30 p.m.

“This is a not-to-be-missed concert for fans of the Yellowjackets and great jazz music,” said Susan Davis, director of special events for the Festival of Arts.

Concerts are free with FOA admission. Limited seating available in reserved section for $25 per person per concert, which includes festival admission. 800-487-3378.

Jazz Legend to Accompany Laguna Concert Band

Max Bennet and his band Private Reserve join Laguna Concert Band’s SwingSet for an afternoon benefit concert Sunday, Oct. 2 at Seven Degrees, 891 Laguna Canyon Rd. Proceeds will benefit the Max Bennett Foundation, which brings music programs to local schools and children’s organizations. A VIP after party begins a 6 p.m.

Embrace ‘The Change’ at the Playhouse  

“Menopause the Musical” opens at Laguna Playhouse for a two week engagement Wednesday, Aug. 31.

The laughter-filled, 90-minute production gets the audience out of their seats and singing along to parodies from classic pop songs of the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s.

Performances at 606 Laguna Canyon Road will be Wednesday through Friday at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 1 and 5:30 p.m.   Tickets $50 – $60 can be purchased online at: lagunaplayhouse.com or by calling 949-497- 2787.

Curtain Goes Up on New-Play Festival

“Love All,” opens this year’s OC-centric New Play Festival, which begins Friday, Aug. 19 at 8 p.m. in Orange, at the Moulton Center Studio Theater, 300 E. Palm Ave., at Chapman University.

Subsequent performances are Aug. 27 at 2 p.m. and Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. For tickets, call 714.902.5716.

In the last 18 months, works by the festival’s artistic director, Eric Eberwein, have been produced or staged in Washington, Idaho, Tennessee, and Texas. Eberwein is also involved in the Bare Bones Theatre play reading series in Laguna Beach. Its first production of the season, “All the Good in the World,” by Cory Hinkle, is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 12 at Sandra Jones Campbell studio.

Cast includes Mark Miller, Deb Conroy, Charlie Pacello and Evie Cant, with Ava Burton reading stage directions.
